My Dnipro
I know that there are many beautiful cities and towns in the world. I would like to visit some of them, to see with my own eyes what I have read or heard about these places. But I’m sure there is no place like home. I love my native city. I was born here. It’s not the capital, but it is a wonderful place to live.
My city is old and modern at the same time. It is old because this place was founded in 1776 in the reign of Empress Kateryna the II, and named Katerynoslav in her honour. At that time its streets were narrow, dark and dirty. Nowadays it’s a large city with a population of about 1.2 mln people. My city looks modern because of its architecture. Almost all the buildings were built after the war. The streets and avenues are wide and clean.
My favourite place is Globa Park. There you can escape from the noise of the city streets and enjoy the freshness of air under the canopy of park trees. Globa Park is very popular with children. There they can hire roller-skates and ride a horse or take photos with friends. There are a lot of other different attractions: swing boats, merry-go rounds, dodgems, up-and-down roundabouts, a big wheel and others. Multicoloured balloons arid ice-creams are sold everywhere.
Globa Park goes to Yavornitsky Avenue– the main street of our city. The most treasured pieces of architecture have been preserved here. Old houses are combined there with modern buildings of shops and cafes glaring in the evening with bright lights. Our city stands on the river Dnipro. Our parks, lanes, bridges across the river, a large fountain called “ Lybid” add much to the beauty of the city. Just come and see everything with your own eyes. It is better to see than to read.
Speaking about my Dnipropetrovs’k, the place where I was born, I’d like to mention the proverb “East or West — home is best”. And it is true. My native city seems to be the dearest and the best place in the whole world.
